Memorial Day

Shuffleboard Tournament

Another Memorial Day, another great tournament at the 133 Club, located in beautiful downtown Manteca, California. Four boards, three events, and all the fun and food you can handle. Hosted by John and Lucy Avezedo, and run by George Camara and Ed Brayman, this tournament, as AZ Turnbo would say, is definitely a keeper. Thanks to AZ for furnishing the boards and for his never-ending support to California shuffleboard.

The tournament started with the AB Draw event. It was John Avezedo's first big victory as John and Al Hudson from Oregon took first place honors. Paul Parks and Shari Hudson took 2nd place, and Pat Bayless and Vicki Hunt took 3rd.

In the Open Doubles the big winners were Darrol Nelson and Donnie Cox. Second place went to Joe Hudson and Dan Mourgos and in the third place slot was AZ Turnbo and Bob Hunt.

In the Open Singles, in a match now dubbed as the Thriller in Manteca, Dave Keithahn played near flawless shuffleboard to dethrown the odds on favorite, Darrol Nelson. Nobody works harder on his game than Dave K. I would personally like to commend him for his dedication and fortitude, and congratulate Dave for his most impressive victory todate. The third place finisher was Iron Horse Joe Hudson.

Special thanks to Karl Spickelmier (LA), Dudley Hutcherson (LA), Darrol Nelson (OR), and Al Hudson (OR) for making the long trip to join us at the 133 Club.
